FOOTNOTES CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
[1] All details are as recalled by my mother Winifred (Cassidy). She recalls visiting both Bridget and Elizabeth at Moonee Ponds with her own mother. She also recalls receiving a wedding gift of a religious picture (of the Sacred Heart) from Bridget which was positioned in my mother's bedroom wall for as long as I can remember and which is now in the possession of my brother Gerald. Although I have no proof, given the relationship between her brother-in-law Thomas Delahunty with the Little Sisters of the Poor to which I have already referred, it seems likely that Bridget's place of death was at the home for the elderly conducted by those Sisters at Northcote. Elizabeth's place of death at Camberwell may also suggest she was a resident of the Sisters of Nazareth home for the aged (Nazareth House) which is located there. Both Eizabeth and Bridget are buried in Melbourne's Fawkner cemetery.
[2] My mother recalls that Margaret Mary stayed with the McDonalds in Geelong when she visited in the late 1920's.
[3] All details regarding Thomas were as recalled by my mother. His date of death was obtained from a photograph of his grave in Karrakatta cemetery in Perth which was preserved in the family photo album.
[4] As recalled by my mother.
[5] The information regarding George Jr. was obtained from the death notice published in the "Geelong Advertiser" of April 1st 1895, and from his tombstone in the Eastern Cemetery. All other information was as recalled by my mother and confirmed from the indexes of BDM's. My mother also recalled from visiting in the company of her mother that Ada's family lived very close to that of her sister Mary, and that both were within a short walk of Moonee Ponds station.
Margaret Mary Watkins (McDonald), wife of Thomas Watkins is pictured with her daughter Mary Agnes? Photo taken in 1901 and supplied by Thea Benson, a descendant.
